The Saxons
The Saxons were a large and powerful people located in what is now northwest Germany and eastern Netherlands, but not in Saxony. The Saxons were people of the sea. In the 5th and 6th centuries the Saxons invaded Britain, along with the Angles, Jutes, Franks, and Frisians. The Saxons then gave their name to the land naming their lands Essex, Sussex, and Wessex, literally east, south and west Saxons. Essex, Sussex, and Wessex later became Middlesex, and Middlesex later became part of the Kingdom of England.
