Sir Lancelot
In the earliest versions of the Arthurian Legends, Lancelot doesn’t exist, not only that but Lancelot is not a Celtic name. Many attempts have been made to find a possible mistranslation, like “Lance ap Lot” meaning Lance, son of Lot. Lancelot, in the modern versions, was a knight at the round table, supposedly the best knight that sat at the round table and Arthur’s most trusted knight. Naturally the best are all ways envied.  In the Arthur Tale, Guinevere, discussed above, spent some time with her father.

On the week of Arthur and Guinevere’s wedding, Arthur sent Lancelot to escort her to Camelot. On the journey home, they fall in love. Love at first sight. After Arthur and Guinevere’s marriage, Lancelot leaves the court of Arthur. Some say he couldn’t stand seeing Arthur and Gwen together. This time that Lancelot spends away from the court is the time which most say he went crazy, or more likely, super depressed. The lady of his life is now off limits. While Lancelot is off in the bush ‘collecting himself’, Gwen is accused of being a witch and instead of the other medieval ways of judgment, a tournament is held. For the tournament Gwen needed a defender, since Lancelot was not present at the time Percival became Sir Percival and defended the fair Guinevere. Galahad, the challenger, had won against Percival, just then the legendary silver armour of Lancelot came in to defend Gwen. After he cleared Gwen’s name, he left for good. Lancelot was King Arthur’s most trusted knight, he also was the key factor in all of Arthur’s major battles. But as loyal and trusted as he was his love and affair with Guinevere destroyed the unity of Arthur’s court. You can never be to careful with who your friends are.
